A Study on Tattoo Pattern Preference and Emotional Image Based on the Satisfaction with Body Among Male University Students

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to categorize the groups based on the satisfaction with body and examine the difference in the preference and emotional image based on tattoo patterns. For this study, the male university students residing in Seoul and capital area were surveyed. The results of the survey showed that both group had the greatest preference for the ¡®character pattern¡¯ in overall sense in terms of the preference for tattoo patterns. Based on the results of factor analysis that looked into the emotional image for tattoo patterns, the presentness, attractiveness, negativity, and gentleness factor were derived. A statistically significant difference was observed in each categorized group, suggesting that it was possible to take various emotional approach based on each tattoo pattern. In addition, the difference in preference for tattoo, satisfaction, intention of re-procedure were examined. The results showed that the group with high degree of satisfaction with body had greater interest in tattoo compared to the group with low degree of satisfaction with body. Moreover, the group with high degree of interest satisfaction with body had relatively greater satisfaction with tattoo procedure and stronger intention to undergo the procedure again, compared to the group with low degree of satisfaction with body. This study would be instrumental in increasing the positive understanding of tattoo as beauty item and useful for predicting the emotion of consumers, thereby presenting the basic data useful for the development of tattoo design and exploration of utilization.
